Features of Government Housing in Remote Areas

This post is also available in: العربية

These are some of what we believe distinguishes new government housing areas, especially those located south of Al-Sabahiya, west of Al-Sulaibikhat, and north of Jahra.

Current residents may know some of these, newcomers are preparing for them. Some won’t care.

Features, in no particular order:

  • Fuel consumption increases by at least 100%
  • Vehicle wear and tear increases by at least 100%
  • Maintenance costs and vehicle breakdowns increase
  • Oil and tire consumption doubles
  • Besides work, your business, life, errands, and social activities will decrease by at least 80%
  • You won’t have the same social life as before
  • Sports activities, entertainment, and outdoor hobbies will disappear from your life and your family’s life
  • Delivery costs will increase significantly
  • You’ll often hear “Sorry, we don’t deliver to your area”
  • Hot food orders will arrive cold
  • Household appliance repairs will be expensive and delayed
  • No one will visit you
  • You’ll only visit your parents + your favorite sibling
  • Your home diwaniya (social gathering) will happen once every 3 months
  • Camping sites are very, very close
  • Easy land travel to neighboring countries
  • Shopping in Khafji, Hafar Al-Batin, and Basra is easier
  • Car scrapyard is nearby
  • Electricity and water consumption will increase
  • AC unit wear and maintenance will increase
  • Member of the reception committee for any potential invasion
  • Member of the dust storms and hot winds reception committee
  • Enjoying the cemetery’s quietness
  • The area will be desolate during some days and all nights
  • You won’t hear birds or see beautiful passing creatures
  • Nature’s sound = wind sound
  • You may have difficulty keeping household staff
  • Your neighbors are bachelor workers
  • Your neighbors change every few years
  • Official public services arrive late. Very late.
  • The euphoria of moving to the new house will fade within months
  • It might turn out to be a bad choice within months
  • You’ll discover that the distance is very hard to “get used to”

And we might be wrong.

May God grant success…
